The rumors of Lou Gramm sitting in with Foreigner tonight (Friday) in Darien, New York are just that -- rumors.
A source close to Gramm tells us that his performance last (Thursday) night outside of New York City was a "one time thing," and that tonight was never on the schedule. Mick Jones told the Buffalo News earlier this week about a special guest tonight, so he must have been thinking of Ian McDonald and Al Greenwood, both of whom also played Thursday night.
No one is saying whether will Gramm will appearing at any more of Foreigner's 40th anniversary shows this summer.
Jones said, “It was great to have Lou, Al and Ian join us on stage last night, and certainly brought back some special memories. All the original guys are out there playing live shows and working on studio projects. A performance by the entire original band for a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction next year would be a great way to cap off our 40th Anniversary celebrations.”
Last month, the New York Post reported that Bruce Springsteen would do an eight-week residency on Broadway this fall.
Now the paper is backpedaling. Despite the headline "More Details Emerge About Bruce Springsteen’s Broadway Debut," there are no new details to indicate it's happening. The paper quotes sources who say nothing is confirmed and that the venue's owner is nervous because they passed on plays in order to accommodate him.
While the initial report suggested he would be doing a run of full concerts, the Post now says he will be "reading from Born to Run, his best-selling memoir, and picking up his guitar from time to time to illustrate a point or a moment from his life with one of his songs."
Bruce's longtime spokeswoman had no comment on the report.
Deep Purple is one of the few classic rock acts that still writes, records and releases new music, but a 50-year career also means endless archival reissues. On September 8th, Rhino will release A Fire in the Sky, a selection from the band's 19 studio albums between 1968 and 2013.
While it's available in numerous configurations, it's short on rarities.
Purple starts a North American tour with Alice Cooper and Edgar Winteron August 12th in Las Vegas.
On the current music front, Purple has released a long-form video for the song "Johnny's Band," the next single off the Infinite album. The song will be available on August 4th.
