Last week marked the 24th anniversary of the release of Nirvana's third and final studio album, In Utero.

And today (Thursday), producer and engineer Steve Albini put three microphones he used in recording it up on the musical equipment auction site Reverb. Two of them were used to capture Dave Grohl’s drums and one to record Kurt Cobain’s vocals.

Albini has posted a video on Reverb and YouTube in which he explains why he decided to part with the mics and how the three living Nirvana members -- Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear -- actually suggested that he auction them. He also gives tons of technical and historical info, including just how he used them in the sessions.

As of this afternoon (Thursday) bids on the two drum mics had just passed $4000 and the vocal mic was nearing $5000. The auction closes on the last day of September.

R.E.M. have teamed up with fashion designer Paul Smith for a line of limited-edition items inspired by the upcoming deluxe reissue of Automatic for the People.

The collection includes woven scarves, silk pocket squares, canvas tote bags and graphic T-shirts. The items use the graphics from the album, lyrics and promotional photos of the band taken by photographer Anton Corbijn. There's also an exclusive run of screen-printed posters of the album's artwork.

The collection will go on sale November 10th -- the same day the reissue is out -- and will be available at Paul Smith shops in London, New York and Paris, and online at PaulSmith.com.

Elton John has criticized Australian lawmakers still for not passing a bill legalizing same-sex marriage.

A statement reads in part:

"Many years ago, I chose Australia for my wedding to a wonderful woman for whom I have such love and admiration. I wanted more than anything to be a good husband, but I denied who I really was -- it caused my wife sadness, and caused me huge guilt and regret... Almost 24 years ago, I met the person with whom I could be fully myself. When we married in 2014, it felt like that fact was accepted by the world. For Davidand I, being able to openly love and commit to one another, and for that to be recognized and celebrated makes life truly worth living... I love Australia. I love its spirit, its lack of pretense, its passion. I hope it can embrace the honesty and courage that seeks gay marriage as an expression not of desire but of love."

So far, 22 same-sex marriage-related bills have been introduced in the Parliament of Australia, none of which have passed into law.
