Legendary French rock and roll star Johnny Hallyday, who was compared to Elvis Presley at home but little-known in America, has died of lung cancer at 74.
This makes me more than just a little sad. I became aware of Johnny after an interview Mick Jones of Foreigner who used to play in Johnny's band.
According to the New York Times, he sold more than 100 million records, acted in more than 30 films and appeared on the cover of the magazine Paris Match dozens of times.
In 2012, Johnny performed at the Beacon Theater in New York, where he was joined by his old bandmate Mick Jones. Jones says, "Johnny, my dear friend and inspiration throughout the years... I will miss you terribly. You will love on in my everlasting memories. RIP."
Here's a full concert from 2016. So that would make that dude onstage rockin' 73 years old.
Rock on Johnny!
