R.E.M., PEARL JAM Donate Rare Items to Help Scott McCaughey

R.E.M. and Pearl Jam have donated some rare autographed items for the Help the Hoopleonline auction.

Proceeds from the auction go to the JWF Musicians’ Emergency Healthcare Fund, which assists musicians faced with a medical crisis. The fund is among the efforts helping R.E.M sideman Scott McCaughey as he recovers from a stroke he suffered last month while on tour.

The R.E.M. item is a Jet-Glo, Rickenbacker 360 electric guitar manufactured in 2007. Its one of five Peter Buck had produced and used on tour and is signed by all four original members. Buck says "never before, and never again, will a guitar that was actually used with REM both on stage, and in the studio, be sold while I am alive." The auction, which is up to $10,000, ends on December 30th.

All the members of Pearl Jam signed a 2015 Fender Squier guitar, which is up to $4,000. That auction ends on the 28th.

In other Scott McCaughey related news, there's a video for "New Christmas Hymn" from The Minus 5's Christmas album, Dear December. As part of his post-stroke therapy, McCaughey shot footage and did artwork for the video last week at his Portland, Oregon home.
