When I was kid, I couldn't wait to grow up and get out of the house. I couldn't wait to get my first job. I wanted to start adulting and adulting fast! You had to grow up quick in my day because if you didn't a dinosaur might eat you.
If you were still living at home past 18 or 19, something was up.
According to a new study, adulthood now begins at 24, as young people are delaying work, marriage and families longer than they had in previous generations.
Researchers found that the average man gets married for the first time at the age of 32, an increase of eight years since the 1970s.
While it is a drastic change, the study authors weren’t worried about the trend, pointing out that the brain continues to mature beyond the age of 20 -- and many people’s wisdom teeth do not come through until the age of 25.
This means our brains and bodies are continuing to mature well after high school and sometimes even after the college years.
So if your 23 year old kid is still camped out on your sofa, give him a little slack. His brain is still mushy.
