The Great Poppy Hunt

Ok, so you remember this photo from last week...

My wife and I hiking at the Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve. She really enjoys poppies and I like to hike. (Ok, I like poppies too) As you can see there were a lot of poppies last year.

Here's me at the same exact spot yesterday...

Where the hell are all the poppies?! On the way down to the AV, we saw acres of poppies on the hills by Fort Tejon. In fact all along the 136 there numerous promising clumps of poppies. But we get to the Poppy Preserve and nothing. Nada. Zilch. Bupkis.

On the upside, it wasn't too crowded. The downside, there wasn't anybody to take a picture of my wife and me together like last year. Oh, and it was windy AF. And every five feet there was a sign warning about rattlesnakes.

Oh grand! I'll get bit by a rattlesnake and die out here in this wind raveged poppyless hell!

We did manage to find a poppy...

But we never saw any rattlesnakes. Lots of lizards. A poppy. No snakes.
