Lynyrd Skynyrd start a tour tonight and Gary Rossington really may go out with his guitar strapped on.
The band's last original member tells the Tampa Bay Times that his poor health has resulted in heart attacks on stage.
"That’s why I was calling [our current tour] a farewell tour -- I don’t know if I’ll be here. I don’t want to just say, ‘Well, we’re never going to end,’ because I don’t want to die and then it end that way. Which is a heavy thing to talk about, but I have to."
Rossington's doctors have urged him to quit touring for 15 years, as he has undergone quintuple-bypass surgery and takes a battery of nitroglycerine pills to stay alive.
Skynyrd's Last of the Street Survivors Farewell tour gets going tonight in West Palm Beach, Florida, followed by Tampa tomorrow (Saturday).
