Bono took time out from U2's Experience + Innocence tour on Wednesday for a unique experience -- a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican in Vatican City (Rome).
He was there to sign an agreement between his ONE charity and the Pope's Scholas Occurentes educational charity.
While there, Bono explained to the Pontiff that to his fellow countrymen in Ireland, it appears as though the sexual abusers in the Catholic Church are "being more protected than the victims."
Afterward, Bono said, "You could see the pain in [the Pope's] face... I thought he was sincere.” More generally, he added, "Honestly, he is quite a radical thinker and I felt quite old-fashioned sitting next to him."
Bono is now off to Madrid for U2 shows on Thursday and Friday.
