Timing is everything, so when Foo Fighters happened to be doing interviews at L.A. radio station KROQ on the day the news that Maroon 5 would headline next year's Super Bowl Halftime Show, it was inevitable that Dave Grohl would get asked about why they've never secured that coveted slot.
Grohl explained that he's “had multiple conversations over the years with NFL reps where they say, ‘We want to have a rock and roll band. Do you think you could do it? Do you think you could do a stadium?'" He says he replied that they "do it all the time,” and left thinking they'd get the slot, only to see it given to "Madonna or Katy Perry or somebody like that.”
He recalled getting "really hammered" at a party in France one year, and meeting the exec that books the Super Bowl and drunkenly telling him, "I don’t even want to do the Super Bowl! I used to want to do it. Now I don’t want to do it anymore!”
