Ted Nugent has always made it perfectly clear that if you abuse drugs or alcohol, he has no use for you.
But, he makes an exception for arguably the most legendary abuser of all, Keith Richards.
Asked by his friend Sammy Hagar last night (Sunday) on his AXS TV show, Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar, who the "greatest musician in rock" is, Nugent said, “I know what that question means, but music is so diverse. If I want a just pure grunt, just a pure sensual grind, I would give it to Keith Richards. He must have been drunk on every recording… but he’s in control. It’s a controlled slice [of] nasty primal burp, and I love that stuff!”
In other Nugent news, he tells the Behind the Vinyl podcast that he's not sure if he'll ever tour again outside the U.S.
"I wanna tour around the globe. I miss England and Europe. I've never been to Australia. I miss touring around the world, but a good man knows his limitations.
"It would be a miracle if I ever tour other than the United States ever again. There's a good chance of Canadian dates, 'cause it's nearby, but I just don't have the energy or capabilities of that damn flight. It beats the [crap] out of me.
"I went to Okinawa to play for the marines, and it took me three or four weeks to get really healthy again… I think it's just age. That long flight — I can't sleep on an airplane. The first thing to go, to terrorize your immune system and your health, is lack of sleep. So, again, I know what my limits are, and I'm not taking any drugs to mitigate those conditions. I'd rather just eat back straps."
Nugent is 71.
