It’s Grace Slick’s Birthday!
One of the Queen’s of rock, Grace is synonymous with Jefferson Airplane in all its incarnations, including Jefferson Starship and Starship.
She was one of the leaders of the San Francisco psychedelic music scene in the 60s with Jefferson Airplane’s classics “White Rabbit” and “Somebody To Love”, which was featured in the Rolling Stones documentary “Gimme Shelter”, about the tragedy at Altamont.
Grace would also become part of the transformation of Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship, and stayed on with the band when it ultimately became Starship, spawning the massive hits “We Built This City” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”, which powered the film “Mannequin”.
Slick would eventually leave Starship in the 80’s and go solo with four albums of her own and even later reunite with the original Jefferson Airplane in the 90’s. In 1996, Slick was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Jefferson Airplane, and continues even now with her artwork as a painter.
Happy Birthday Grace!
